“No innovative artist can hope to proceed in work, without having gained an understanding of the local wisdom at any place”

Design Intent –

To design a getaway home for an elderly couple, who are soon reaching their age for retirement, after which this will be their permanent home.

We had to consider the inter and intra generational affiliations, family, relatives and friends who will be visiting, while ensuring that the house has absolute convenience being a single level unit with all functions easily accessible without compromising on the essence of the mango farm in which this home is being built.

Plan and Orientation

The planning commenced based on establishing the cardinal directions and building accordingly.

The puja space was first located and the rest of the house emerged considering the pooja space as the benchmark.

Core Ideas and Inspirations to Design –

“Prakruthi Rakshati Rakshitah” – Nature protects is she is protected.

Touchstone to this project was contextually blending the built form in the environment through environmentally sensitive and environmentally responsive architecture, design and execution.

We tried to achieve inclusive architecture where the human and non-human residents can co-habit a space where the built form merges with the natural environment through meticulous selection and usage of construction technologies and materials.
